The operator (the “Operator”) of kogoo (the “App”) handles information about users of the App (“Users”) as described below.

1. Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address and sign-in method (email, Apple or Google). If you sign in with Apple and choose “Hide My Email”, this is a relay address provided by Apple. The Operator can never see your password.
  • Profile: display name (required) and weight (optional).
  • Location and ride records: your location (latitude, longitude and time) while a ride is being recorded, and the distance, time, speed and estimated calories calculated from it, plus any route name and description you add. Location is also used to show where you are on the map and to sort routes by distance, but only locations recorded during a ride are saved.
  • Ride photos (only if you add them): photos you choose to attach to a ride. They are resized on your device and stripped of information such as where they were taken (EXIF) before being saved. Only you can see them, and no public URL is created.
  • kogoo Photo (only if you share): when you choose to share a photo, that photo is shown to other signed-in Users together with your display name, the ride date, and the ride’s distance and elevation gain (location, time and route are not shown). When you share, we check the photo for inappropriate content using Google’s image analysis (Cloud Vision). We also record the photos you like and the number of likes.
  • Friends and rankings: your friend code, friend relationships, friend requests, and monthly distance totals.
  • Reports and blocks: who you reported, the reason, the screen you reported from, and who you blocked.
  • Inquiries: what you enter in the contact form.
  • kogoo Pro (if purchased): the plan you bought, the dates of purchase, renewal and cancellation, whether you used a free trial, the auto-renewal status, and whether you tried a Pro feature. Payments are handled by Apple; the Operator never receives payment details such as credit card information.
  • AI coach (only if you consent): a record of your consent (date and version), how often and how much you used the AI, and ride review texts. What you say to the AI is sent to it to create a reply but is not stored on the Operator’s servers. If you speak, your voice is converted to text by Apple’s speech recognition; the audio itself is not sent to the Operator or to the AI.
  • Heart-rate monitor (only if you pair one): heart rate received from a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor, the name of the paired monitor, and the maximum heart rate you enter. Heart rate during a ride is used only on your device; only the ride’s average and maximum heart rate are saved with the ride record (visible only to you). The monitor name and maximum heart rate stay on your device. Heart rate is never sent to the AI.
  • Cadence sensor (only if you pair one): pedal revolution data received from a Bluetooth cadence sensor and the name of the paired sensor. Cadence (pedal revolutions per minute) during a ride is used only on your device; only the ride’s average and maximum cadence are saved with the ride record (visible only to you). The sensor name stays on your device. Cadence is never sent to the AI.
  • App and device information: verification information to prevent use from unauthorized apps (such as Apple App Attest), activity logs for investigating problems (such as error types), and crash reports (Crashlytics).
  • Usage (can be turned off): screens viewed, features used (such as starting and saving rides, talking to the AI, sharing photos, and actions on the purchase screen), device type, OS and app version, and approximate region, linked to your account ID. Location, routes, photos, conversation content and email addresses are not sent. We do not collect advertising IDs and do not track you across other companies’ data.

2. How we use information

  • To provide ride recording, route and statistics views, ride photos, rankings and friends features.
  • To sign you in, verify your identity, and prevent impersonation and misuse (rides that look unnatural are not counted in rankings).
  • To answer questions, review rides, move between screens and operate ride recording with the AI coach, and to deliver live AI cheers tailored to your ride by voice while riding (kogoo Pro and the free trial; both only if you consent).
  • To check your kogoo Pro status and provide Pro features.
  • To respond to reports and to actions that violate the Terms of Use.
  • To reply to inquiries.
  • To fix problems and improve the App and information about it (such as store descriptions).

3. Information shown to other users

Other Users can see only your display name, your friend code, and—if you join rankings—your distance this month (rankings) and your best time on segment time attacks (segment leaderboards). Your email address, weight, location, ride routes and ride times are not shown to other Users. Of your ride photos, only those shared to kogoo Photo are shown, together with your display name, ride date, distance and elevation gain.

You appear in rankings (monthly distance and segment leaderboards) only if you choose to join (you are not included by default). You can change this at any time with “Join rankings” on My Page; if you leave, you are removed from rankings. My Segments (time-trial segments you create yourself) and their times are visible only to you. If you apply to publish a My Segment as a community segment, the Operator reviews its name and path, and once published, the segment name and path are shown to other Users (your name and ride records are not shown; the Operator may change the published name). When you apply, the server checks that the segment is not near the start or end points of your own rides, to protect places such as your home (those points are not stored). Segment times are calculated by the server from ride records; impossible speeds and similar records are not ranked.

To add new segments, we combine the start and end points and paths of Users’ My Segments (including places where you did a time attack) with those of other Users (this is on by default). Only where 10 or more Users have made My Segments at nearly the same place along the same road does the place become a candidate for a community segment, which the Operator reviews before publishing. A candidate keeps the place (start, end and the path of one of those My Segments) and the number of Users, but not whose My Segments they came from. To protect places such as your home and workplace, when you create a My Segment it is excluded if its start or end is within 1 km of the start or end points of the ride it was made from or of your recent rides (for example, a My Segment from home to work), or if it does not have the shape of a time-trial segment such as a climb or a short straight (for example, a long flat route) (those points are not stored). If you turn off “Help create segments” on My Page (also available when creating a My Segment), your My Segments are no longer used from then on. Segments already published remain.

If your display name contains inappropriate words or words that impersonate the Operator, other Users will see a different name.

4. External services

The App uses the following external services. Information is sent to them only as needed to provide the features.

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud (Google LLC): sign-in, data storage and processing, and misuse prevention. Data is stored mainly in data centers in Tokyo. Sign-in information may be stored outside Japan.
  • Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC): usage measurement and crash reports (to improve the App and information about it). May be processed outside Japan. You can turn this off with “Send usage data” on My Page.
  • Sign in with Apple and App Attest (Apple Inc.): signing in with Apple and verifying the App.
  • Sign in with Google (Google LLC): signing in with Google.
  • Apple Maps (Apple Inc.): showing maps, searching for destinations, and cycling directions. Your search terms and current location (to prioritize nearby results) when searching, your current location and destination when creating directions, and your current location and the course’s waypoints when creating a loop course are sent to Apple (not to the Operator’s servers; destinations are stored only on your device and deleted when the ride ends).
  • Google Forms (Google LLC): receiving inquiries.
  • RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.): managing kogoo Pro purchase status. Your in-app user number (a random ID; no email address or name), App Store purchase records (plan, price, purchase and renewal dates, transaction ID), device and app information (OS and app version, country and language settings, etc.) and your IP address for communication are sent. Processed outside Japan, including in the United States. When you delete your account, we also request deletion of your purchase records at RevenueCat.
  • App Store (Apple Inc.): purchasing and paying for kogoo Pro.
  • Cloud Vision (Google Cloud, Google LLC): checking photos shared to kogoo Photo for inappropriate content (only when you share). Used only to check the photo; not used to train Google’s models.
  • Gemini (Vertex AI on Google Cloud, Google LLC): creating AI coach replies (only if you consent). We send what you say, the recent conversation (up to 6 messages), the date and time, whether you are riding, and ride data needed for the reply (distance, time, number of rides, estimated calories, and for each ride the date, start time, average and maximum speed and elevation gain). Where you rode, your routes and ride names are not sent. What is sent is not used to train the AI. Google may retain it for a limited period to speed up processing or prevent abuse. May be processed outside Japan.
  • Apple speech recognition (Apple Inc.): converting your voice to text when you speak. On devices that cannot do this on the device itself, your voice is sent to Apple.
  • Gemini voice (Text-to-Speech on Google Cloud, Google LLC): turning fixed voice-buddy and navigation phrases (for example, “10 km done” or “In about 300 meters, turn right”) into an AI voice. Only phrases defined by the Operator are sent; no user information (location, ride records, conversations, etc.) is sent. The generated voice clips are shared by all users. You can switch to the iPhone voice with “Voice type” on My Page.
  • Live AI cheers (Vertex AI and Text-to-Speech on Google Cloud, Google LLC; kogoo Pro and the free trial, only if you consent to AI): having the AI write a short cheer tailored to your ride and turn it into voice while you ride. Only numbers are sent (today’s distance, riding time, average speed, elevation gain, estimated calories, your longest ride and usual average speed, the hour of day, and the kind of moment). Where you rode, your routes and ride names are not sent. The cheer text and voice are not stored on the Operator’s servers (only the number of uses is recorded). What is sent is not used to train the AI. May be processed outside Japan.

5. Sharing with third parties

Except where required by law or necessary to protect someone’s life, body or property, the Operator does not provide personal information to third parties without your consent.

The Operator does not use your information for advertising or sell it. We do not link it with information from other companies’ apps or websites to track you.

To the extent necessary to provide the App, the Operator may entrust the handling of information to the providers listed in “4. External services” and supervises them appropriately. These providers may handle information in countries other than Japan (such as the United States).

6. Retention and deletion

Your information is kept until you delete your account.

You can delete your account at any time from “Delete account” on My Page. This deletes your profile, ride records and photos (including photos shared to kogoo Photo and likes), My Segments and their times, friend relationships, ranking records, reports you sent, AI coach usage records (consent record, usage count and amount, ride reviews), your kogoo Pro status and Pro trial record, and your sign-in information, as well as App data left on your device. If you signed in with Apple, the App is also disconnected from your Apple ID.

Deleting your account does not cancel your kogoo Pro subscription. Please cancel it in the iPhone Settings app. When you delete your account, we also request deletion of your purchase records at RevenueCat. App Store purchase records are kept by Apple under Apple’s policies.

Records of reports received from other Users may be kept for as long as necessary after account deletion to deal with misuse (they do not include email addresses or similar). Activity logs for investigating problems are deleted automatically after about 30 days.

7. Security

  • All communication is encrypted.
  • Access to data is restricted so that your information can be handled only by you (and by the Operator where necessary).
  • We use a mechanism (App Check) that verifies requests come from the genuine App.

8. Your choices

  • You can change your display name and weight at any time on My Page. Weight can also be left blank.
  • You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings (ride recording will no longer work).
  • You can withdraw consent to the AI coach at any time on My Page. All other features work without the AI. Microphone and speech recognition permissions can be revoked in your device settings.
  • You can turn off sending usage data (usage measurement and crash reports) at any time with “Send usage data” on My Page.
  • Requests for disclosure, correction, suspension of use or deletion of personal information we hold, and inquiries about the Operator, are accepted through the contact form and handled without delay.

9. Minors

If you are a minor, please obtain your parent’s or guardian’s consent before using the App.

10. Changes to this policy

The Operator may change this policy as necessary. We will announce important changes in the App.
